What else is there to do on a mountain bike holiday in Austria?

If you're looking for something else to do on your mountain bike holiday in Austria, consider hiking, climbing, kayaking, rafting, and visiting some of the local mountain huts. Each of these activities can be enjoyed in the beautiful Austrian countryside and offer a unique perspective on this picturesque country.

What are the mountain biking rules in Austria?

With its breathtaking countryside begging to be explored, Austria has a little something for mountain bikers of all levels. But before you hit the trails in this gorgeous Alpine destination, remember: no biking off-road!
Instead, check out one of the official bike parks and shared trails throughout the country. There are several of these parks throughout the country like Brandertal, Serfaus, Nauders, Innsbruck and Leogang. If you want to ride unofficial single tracks, you need local guides that have made agreements with landowners and tourism associations so that visitors can ride their way through some truly unique terrain safely… and legally!

What kind of mountain bike do I need for mountain biking in Austria?

It depends on the type of mountain biking you want to do in Austria. If you're looking for mellower trails and bike paths, a hardtail mountain bike should be fine. However, if you're planning on doing more advanced or downhill mountain biking, I would recommend renting or investing in a full suspension mountain bike. Our trips are mostly ridden on fully's but hardtails perfectly welcome as well.

How difficult are the mountain biking trails in Austria?

Most of the mountain biking trails in Austria are graded from easy to difficult, but there are a few trails that can be a bit rocky. The grading goes from S1 (easy) to S5 (difficult), and most of the trails we ride fall into the categories of S1 to S4. There are some trails that are more difficult, but for the most part, everything between S2 and S3 should be manageable for experienced mountain bikers. Just be prepared for some uneven terrain and a few rocks along the way!
